Blus Win the Day at Alex Hall

From Bases Loaded 29.7

Last Saturday Parrs Wood was the venue for the 19th annual Alex Hall Memorial charity tournament which was won by the Blu Team. Each dressed up as their favourite “Blu” in an exciting final in which they prevailed over the unlucky Yellow team, in fancy dress theme of assorted animals, who were undefeated until the final.

The four-team tourney was completed by the Red team, dressed in Christmassy Santa and elf suits, which were frankly the last thing you would want to wear on a sunny day with temperatures in the 20s, and the White Weddings who lost every game, but won the picnic comp. Other winners were Gina Amos whose “Mask” costume was judged the best, Sarah Cassin and Matt Green (throwing) and Nic McKenna and Gurarjun Grewal (fastest round the bases). The day couldn’t have gone better!

The sun was shining, everyone had fun, new friendships were made, lots of great softball was played and we raised so much money for the Christie. While payments are still coming in, an initial estimate is that we raised just over £2,000. That’s a massive amount to help the Christie fund their life saving work. We know they are so grateful for the support they receive from this long-standing fundraiser. The organisers, Vicky Green, Kate Shearer and Gina Amos, would like to thank all those who supported—whether by captaining, playing, umpiring, donating/buying raffle tickets or generally helping out to make this event so successful! They especially want to thank the players themselves for adhering to their request not to drink too much alcohol. Here’s to next year!
Thanks again everyone.
