Second half of season
League games played 3rd July
Platt Fields met Ringway for the third time this season, in a repeat of last week’s cup final. This time they managed a result, giving the Pirates a 2½-½ lead in the series. Newly promoted Fog Lane had a good win over half-way leaders the Greensox, while for the fourth week running M16s had no game, this time conceding a walk-over to the Mavs because of a shortage of players. In Division 2, the Bees won the TSB “derby”, while the Dodgers won a high-scoring game with the ex-premier league Rusholme side. In Division 3 Didsbury had a comfortable win over Insight, despite a late rally by the Blaggers. The Kellogg’s team repeated their first-half win over the Twatters, while Exception 13 foiled (geddit?) our newest recruits, the Sabre Cats.

TOURNAMENT
On Saturday August 10th, SMSL hosted a one-day tournament at the Manchester University sports ground at Northenden/Wythenshawe. Visiting teams from Birmingham and Leeds joined local sides in a splendid day’s softball, marred only by the serious injury to one of the Birmingham players. A little compensation for the Brummies, who won the trophy, while the Coopers, from Leeds, collected the Plate.
